Senior Wayne State University guard and 2012 Durand graduate Kristen Long was recently selected as a national semifinalist for the Coach Wooden Citizenship Cup, which is presented annually by the athlete mentoring organization Athletes for a Better World to the “most outstanding role model among athletes.”
Long has accomplished plenty during her time at WSU, including playing in her 100th game on Jan. 2 against Grand Valley, and Long also produced an amazing resume from her time at Durand. She was selected to the Associated Press All-State first team in Class B during her senior season. She also graduated with school records in points, assists and steals.
Kristen was coached by her father Jeff Long during her time on the Durand varsity team, and the father-daughter duo helped guide the Railroaders to three district titles and one Genesee Area Conference title.
