THE DURAND DESTINATION IMAGINATION TEAM hosted its Flint Children’s Benefit Gala Friday, April 1 at Durand Union Station, and the club raised over $2,500 that will be donated to the Flint Child Health and Development Fund (flintkids.org). The community led organization will use the money to help families affected by the crisis to pay for medical costs, to offer immediate care, and to educate the public.

Though the event was hosted and organized by the Durand Destination Imagination Clean Team, they also received support from Durand Destination Imagination Challenge Team and the Durand National Honor Society members, who helped prepare and serve the food.

Attendees were treated to a roasted lemon chicken dinner, a silent auction, live entertainment, dancing, and a presentation from featured speaker, Dr. Michelle Sahli from the University of Michigan-Flint. Dr. Sahli explained how the Flint Water Crisis came to happen and detailed some steps that are being taken to fix the problem and to help community residents.

The five DI Team Clean members took a moment from their busy evening to pose with Dr. Sahle Friday. Shown here are (from left): Silver Graham, Tatianna Fraley, Rachael Buhler, Dr. Sahli, Anna Dietrich, and Daniel Greeson. (Independent Photo/Graham Sturgeon)
