The Greater Durand Area Chamber of Commerce is asking for the public’s help to recognize the people and businesses “that make our community special.” Residents are asked to nominate their favorite business, organization, or citizen that is making a difference in the community. Anyone can complete a nomination form, but nominees for the Business Owner of the Year award must be a member of the Greater Durand Area Chamber of Commerce, Inc. Not sure if a nominee is eligible? Complete the form and the chamber will determine the right category and eligibility. Nominations are due by Friday, Feb. 21.

Every member business began with a person’s idea coupled with his or her commitment to make quality products or services, provide jobs and pay taxes that help support our schools and infrastructure. They support the community. They are the backbone of the business community.

Durand is enriched by the presence of many nonprofit organizations whose generosity and altruism provide the “extras” that lend to the texture and quality of community life. They’re made up of people who donate time and energy to support worthy causes.

For Citizen of the Year nominees, their days don’t end when they leave the workplace; they willingly step up and into leadership roles when nobody else will; they give of time and treasure and energy without expectation of praise or compensation.

Nomination forms can be picked up at the Greater Durand Area Chamber of Commerce office, which is located at 109 N. Saginaw St. in downtown Durand. Completed forms can be returned to the chamber office; mailed to P.O. Box 109, Durand, Ml 48429; faxed to (989) 288- 5177; or emailed to office@durandchamber.com.
