‘DOING THE MOST GOOD’ is the tagline used by the Salvation Army and also the theme that inspired two Owosso girls wanting to give back to the community this holiday season. Bethany Fredenburg, who is only 9 years old and her cousin, Isabell Pahl at 10 1/2 years old, are both Owosso Public School students who decided completely of their own accord that they wanted to help people out for Christmas. The girls approached their parents with their desire to help people “with way less than they each have.”

The parents contacted the Salvation Army on Exchange St. and Bethany and Isabell were granted the opportunity to be red kettle bell ringers at VG’s on N. M-52 on Tuesday, Dec. 13. Adding to their generous donation of time and effort, the girls were inspired to sing heart-felt

Christmas carols to shoppers at the grocery store. It is worth acknowledging that the cousins were not complaining about the bitter cold, or the snow, or being out in the evening. Bundled in winter gear, with guardians nearby, each of them willingly worked to help the 2016 Salvation Army campaign. (Independent Photo/Karen Mead-Elford)
