At about 12:16 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 1100 block of S. Bell Drive (off Frederick west of S. Chestnut) in Owosso Charter Township, said Det. Lt. David Kirk. “An observant neighbor had noticed that the blinds had been closed inside the residence and also knew that the homeowner as currently out of town.

“Upon arrival at the location, deputies discovered an open window. Upon entering the residence, they located a subject inside as well as indications the subject had been rummaging through belongings at the home. While on the scene, investigating deputies were able to make contact with the homeowner by telephone, who confirmed that there should be no one inside the residence.

“As result of the investigation, a 21-year-old Pontiac man was arrested for home invasion.” During booking at the county jail, a substance suspected to be cocaine was found on the man, so the prosecutor’s office wanted to wait until testing on it was completed so that if cocaine-related charges were to be filed, that could be done at the same time as the burglary charge. The man was then released from jail pending those tests.
