Owosso will be picking up leaves throughout the residential neighborhoods beginning Monday, Oct. 26, through Monday, Nov. 30.

Again this year, residents are asked to rake leaves into the street rather than leaving them on the parkway, with the following exceptions: Shiawassee Street (M-52), Main Street (M-21) and Corunna Avenue (M-71) residents must place leaves on the parkway and not in the street. For all other locations, leaves must be in the street in order to be picked up.

Leaves on the parkway or in yards or driveways will not be picked up. Leaves raked into the street allow mechanical pickup and avoids the problem of wet leaves on the parkway grass.

Leaf collection rules: *Keep leaves five feet from a catch basin to avoid flooding if it rains. Residents are encouraged to remove leaves and trash from catch basins whenever possible. *Don’t put leaves in bags. *Don’t mix brush or rocks in leaves. *Leaves will not be picked up from private streets or drives, alleys or commercial establishments. *The city is divided into 16 leaf pickup sections. The city will make two passes through each area. “Due to weather, uncertainty of when the majority of leaves will fall and unforeseen circumstances, we will not be publishing a schedule this year,” said the city’s announcement. “We will start the leaf collection in N1, following this route for pick up: N1, S1, S2, N2, N3, S3, S4, N4, N5, S5, S6, N6, N7, S7, S8, N8, repeating the sequence for a second time through. We will issue daily updates of our progress and next anticipated pickup areas on our webpage (www.ci.owosso.mi.us). Collection will begin at 7 a.m.

**The Aiken Road drop-off site – Each Saturday during October and November, residents may take unbagged leaves to the drop off site on Aiken Road (west side, just south of Industrial Drive) between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. “You may also take brush to the drop off site. It is illegal to drop off plastic containers or bags, metal, rocks, building materials, refuse, debris, grass clippings or vines.”

This service applies to city of Owosso residents only.
