THE FIRST-ANNUAL CORUNNA COLOR RUN took place Friday, April 29 at the Corunna Middle School (CMS), and at least 230 people, young and old, participated in the fundraising event. While the one-mile and 5K runs got the adrenaline flowing, the fun did not end there. The youngsters shown here are enjoying the final color station, post-race, with bags of cornstarch and food coloring. The event was a fundraiser for the CMS Parent Teacher Association (PTA), though CMS English Language Arts teacher Katy Piotrowski approached CMS Principal Robb Dettman with the healthy fundraising alternative. The large turnout surprised Piotroski, who began planning the event in January, leaving less than four months to prepare.
“I only hoped for 75 runners, so this is a great number for the first time,” Piotrowski said following the race. “The community has been phenomenal. And this will allow us to help fund field trips, provide materials for students, buy playground equipment, and contribute to our backpack program and school clubs.”
In addition to being well attended, the race also had nine local sponsors, including Shook Realty, Foremost Podiatry, Piotrowski Builders, Glasers Lumber, Sheridan Auction House, Simplified Tax & Accounting, South 401, Jacobs Insurance, and Century 21. (Independent Photo/Graham Sturgeon)
