The Salvation Army of Shiawassee County began taking donations of coats for children and adults of all sizes on Thursday, Oct. 1. The Coats for Kids drive will proceed through Sunday, Nov. 1. Coats donated should be new. The Salvation Army will be taking donations of children’s coats of all sizes, teen sizes and adult sizes, with a need for big and tall sizes as well. Distribution of the donated coats will begin on Wednesday, Nov. 4 from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Please call to schedule an appointment. The coats will continue to be distributed as needed through Christmas, ending in January. The Salvation Army is also taking donations of new snow pants, boots, hats, gloves and mittens.
The Salvation Army in Owosso has 10 drop-off locations where new coats and accessories may be dropped, including: Ruthy’s Cleaners, The Salvation Army Business Office (at 302 E. Exchange St. in Owosso), Biggby Coffee, Foster’s Coffee Company, Life in Christ Church, the Sherriff’s Office in Corunna, Team One Credit Union, Qdoba, Deisler Outdoor Power Equipment and Young’s Auto in Owosso. Look for the bin marked with the Coats for Kids logo.
The Salvation Army is asking local newspapers and media outlets to regularly share these drop-off locations in their publications to help raise the goal of three hundred coats for kids and adults in need.
The Salvation Army invites the community to support those in need this fall season by helping children and adults to stay warm in the harsh elements, particularly to protect families against COVID-19 and the flu this winter.
