THE CHESANING INDIANS boys tennis team has claimed the 2017 Tri-Valley Conference (TVC) regular season and tournament championships, with the team’s No. 1 doubles and No. 2 doubles pairings both earning 1st-team all-conference honors. The team, which is coached by Dave Gasper and assistant Dr. Tom Teal, swept Ithaca on Wednesday, Sept. 27 to finish 12-3-1 and officially capture the TVC regular season crown.
In the TVC tournament at the Midland Tennis Center on Monday, Oct. 2, Chesaning extended its dominance of the TVC by winning the tournament. The No. 1 doubles pairing of Eddie Murphy and Garret Bishop won their bracket at the conference tourney, as did the team’s No. 2 doubles pairing of Kieran Himm and Austin Rolka.
The team can be seen following the conference tournament win. The record-setting group of Indians athletes includes Jarrett Kelley, No. 1 singles; Josh Wirt, No. 2 singles; Les Agnew, No. 3 singles; Dawson Giesken, No. 4 singles; Murphy and Bishop, No. 1 doubles; Himm and Rolka, No. 2 doubles; Blane Eastwood and Noah Rieder No. 3 doubles; and Garrett Powell and Kyle Rolfe, No. 4 doubles.
The team will compete in the Division 4 regional tournament at the Midland Tennis Center on Friday, Oct. 13.
