COMMISSIONERS Jeremy Root, District 5, and Brandon Marks, District 4, held a joint re-election campaign kick-off fundraiser at Union Station Smokehouse in Durand on Thursday, Oct. 5. Marks (Rep.) was elected to the Shiawassee County Board of Commissioners in November of 2016, replacing Les Schneider, who did not seek re-election. Root (Rep.) was first elected in November of 2014 after defeating incumbent Bob McLaren in the August primary election.

In addition to having the opportunity to speak with each commissioner during the event, attendees were treated to some of Union Station Smokehouse owner Mike Malachowski’s unique menu items, as well as live music on the patio.

Some of the notable figures in attendance for the fundraiser, though not necessarily in support of the candidates, were (from left) Sgt. Keith Hansen of the Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), Durand Police Chief Jason Hartz, Sheriff Brian BeGole, 35th Circuit Court Judge Matt Stewart, Root, Undersheriff Robert “Butch” Brancheau, Marks, 85th District Rep. Ben Frederick, and SCSO Deputy Lauren Shelly.
