The Burns Township Board accepted the resignation of Trustee Cheryl Cole during its Monday, Jan. 11, meeting. Cole, who had served on the board since 2004, resigned her post due to personal reasons. She said during Monday’s meeting that she “needs to focus on her family and herself.”

Cole was a vocal supporter of the county’s library system and had recently played a prominent role in the board’s decision to purchase the property at 507 W. Maple Street in Byron, the site of the Streeter Funeral Home. “I always made decisions reflective of the community and not based on my personal preference,” Cole said when reached for comment.

Cole’s resignation leaves the five-member board a person short, with Supervisor Dave Mitchell, Treasurer Val Ritter, Clerk Susan Granger and Trustee Garry Adams remaining.

While Cole is resigning her spot on the board, she will continue to serve as the Director of the Vernon District Public Library.
