OWOSSO HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR Dakota Bernath officially committed to Alma College Wednesday, March 16, where he will play football and pursue a degree in accountancy, which he hopes to turn into a job as a market analyst or a CPA. He has maintained a 3.5 GPA during his time at Owosso High School, and has received a substantial academic scholarship to help cover tuition at the private liberal arts college.

Bernath participated in track as a discus and shot put thrower, and in wrestling in the heavyweight division this past season, in addition to playing on the defensive and offensive lines for the Trojan football team. He hopes to play offensive tackle at Alma, where most of the school’s 2015 linemen are graduating this summer.

Bernath was joined for the signing by his parents, Bob and Brenda, and Coach Bryan Carpenter, who praised the senior for his work ethic and determination. “Dakota really showed a lot of guts this season persevering through a pretty serious injury, Carpenter said Wednesday. “He earned his spot and would not relinquish it, no matter what. That speaks to his character and ability, which will both serve him well at Alma.” (Independent Photo/Graham Sturgeon)
