The 14th annual Belt Sander Drag Racing event was Saturday afternoon, July 4, in the McCurdy Park Larry Frank Grandstand. There were four entries plus four members of the audience won the drawing to enter the Stock Race event with a race ready sander supplied by the Fourth of July Commission. There were three Modified entries and all decorated Sanders were judged for “Best of Show” prizes.
Industrial Supply of Owosso, 325 S. Delaney Road, once again sponsored the event with an awesome selection of prizes for first and second places. Thanks again to our sponsors, Jim Scriba and Nick Pappan. Total retail value of the prizes was over $300. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals were also awarded for top three places in each category. Winners selected a prize, listed in the order of value, from the following list. Two – Komelon Limited Edition Tape Measure Set, value $29.95 each set. Two – Norge Bimetal Hole Saw 7 piece Kit with Case, $45 value each kit. Two – Channel Lock, USA Made, three-piece Plier Set, value $80 each set.
The winners were: Stock, first, “Moo Over,” Rodger Campbell; second, “Lucky,” Bud Blaisdell; third, “Jimmer,” James Cummings. Modified: Tie for first with “Patriot,” Rodger Campbell and “Re-Run,” Duane Malburg; third “Norbert,” Al Bayless. Best of Show: “Rescue 911,” Tom Adams; second, “Patriot,” Rodger Campbell; “Re-Run,” Duane Malburg.
We blew a fuse in the Starting Panel at the start of the final race so we declared a tie for the Modified winner. Rodger and Duane each won a race in the best of three.
