On Monday, Nov. 14 starting at noon, at Christ Episcopal Church, 120 E. Goodhue St., Owosso, Musicale will celebrate Veterans Day with patriotic American Music as a tribute to armed services personnel by our members and the Musicale chorus.

Also, a special visit by Owosso native Kristin Martin, professional actor, singer and dancer has been arranged. “Kristin holds a special place in many members’ hearts,” commented past-president Sue Degerstrom,” We were among her earliest and fondest audience as her talent has grown and brought her success in a very competitive field.” Kristin has promised an informal question and answer session to tell of her times while on tour, then making her Broadway debut in the musical “Spiderman”. Currently she is now performing the role of Nessa Rose, Elphaba’s sister, with the musical “Wicked” American Touring Company.

The Nov. 14 meeting continues the celebration of Owosso Musicale’s 80 years of supporting music and being part of the National Music Federation. “Supporting young musicians’ growth, bringing music to our community and reaching out with music to people young and old is a long-time goal, “said current co-president Sue Henry. “We love showcasing the incredible talents of local musicians, including the musicianship of our members this month when our Chorus shares selections of patriotic songs.”

Last month, State Representative Ben Glardon brought two special proclamations from the 98th State of Michigan Legislature to the club, one to commend the long-time work done in the community by the many members of Owosso Musicale over their history. Suzanne Degerstrom was also recognized with a special tribute from the legislature for her outstanding service for over 25 years as president and 55 years as a member. The recognition of Representative Glardon, and his support was greatly appreciated by the membership. Also attending was Mayor Ben Frederick, who told how important music has been in his life. The Michigan Federation of Music Clubs (MFMC) Northeast District President MaryAnn Lamonte was also a guest who came to honor Sue for her work for the local, state and district. She spoke about her work with music outreach, SouthCentral district President and four years as chaplain of MFMC.

“This November program will be a wonderful after noon of music,” said co-president Donna Benson,” Visitors are always welcome, and new members may join anytime. Our meeting starts at noon with an informal fellowship, with our formal program beginning at 12:45 p.m. All are welcome.”
