After leading a deputy on a wrong-way chase on US-131, the driver was captured

ALAMO TOWNSHIP, Michigan — A Chicago driver was arrested early Wednesday morning for attempting to flee from a Kalamazoo County deputy on US-131.

The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office said the chase began shortly after 1 a.m. A deputy was traveling northbound on the highway near D Avenue when he noticed a vehicle driving northbound in the southbound lanes.

The deputy was able to get ahead of the suspect and pull into an emergency turnaround, but when the deputy signaled for the driver to stop, the suspect kept going.

Road spikes were eventually deployed, rendering the suspect’s vehicle “disabled”.

The driver has only been identified as a 35-year-old Chicago resident. They were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and possessing illegal drugs.

The incident resulted in no injuries, and the only property damaged were the suspect’s two tires. The suspect is currently being held at the Kalamazoo County Jail, awaiting arraignment.
