After 35 years, the iconic bar restaurant shutters its doors in bankruptcy

The reckoning in the chain restaurant segment will continue in 2025. After 35 years, they are celebrating with a special menu; the catch is finding a location that is still open.

A once swanky gastropub has hit rock bottom for the second time in five years, closing multiple locations and declaring bankruptcy. Many impacted restaurant chains are dealing with rising labor, food, and overall inflation costs, which is hastening consumer attitudes toward the value of dining out.

With at least three Florida locations now at risk, many of the remaining Bar Louie locations have already closed abruptly. The chain, which had restaurants in 19 states, abruptly closed locations in Cleveland, Michigan, Illinois, and New Jersey this week.

According to My Central Jersey, employees were laid off without notice, with many arriving to find their workplace closed and locked.

They appear to have filed in the District of Delaware, listing the debtor’s largest unsecured creditors as US Foods Dallas ($1.8 million), Edward Don & Co. ($590,000), and Produce Alliance LLC ($148,000). The filing in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware totals $1 million to $10 million in assets and $50 million to $100 million in liabilities.

Bar Louie is an upscale neighborhood bar and eatery known for its welcoming atmosphere, handcrafted cocktails, extensive selection of local and regional beers on over 20 taps, high-quality wines, and robust menu filled with flavor-packed dishes. Since 1990, our loyal guests have returned to Bar Louie for great food, beverage, and service, regardless of the occasion.
