According to an early March forecast, winter may struggle to maintain its grip on Michigan

Looking at the early March forecast, we can expect several slightly spring-like days soon.

In fact, it appears that true winter weather will struggle to keep us in its grip through March.

I don’t want you to interpret my statement as meaning that winter is over. Winter is not over. Even in southern Michigan, we’re likely to face one or two more winter storms.

The days preceding any of these winter storms may be warm and above freezing. In that case, we’d get a few wintry days in a row surrounding the storm system.

The temperature forecasts for the next six to ten days, eight to fourteen days, and three to four weeks are provided below.

Temperature forecasts show that a warm area to our west gradually cools as it approaches Michigan. This means early March will be warmer than usual, with temperatures possibly returning to normal by mid-March.

Remember that the average high temperature in March rises one degree every two days. By mid-March, the long-term average high temperature in Lower Michigan is in the low to mid 40s.

What do the above temperature forecasts mean for us in Lower Michigan, specifically southern Michigan?

This means that the first half of March will see far more days above freezing than below freezing. We’ll probably have a few days in early March that warm up to the 40s. We may have a day or two with temperatures above 50 degrees, particularly in southern Michigan.

Overnight and early morning temperatures will remain cold, mostly below freezing.

Winter is not completely over, but it is gradually losing its grip on Lower Michigan over the next few weeks.
