Authorities in Arizona say a man who responded to a visitor’s request for car assistance was found dead overnight on Christmas Eve.

According to Pima County Sheriff’s deputies, Paul Clifford was reported missing by his family after a man arrived at his home seeking assistance with car trouble. On Tuesday, deputies discovered Clifford’s body near a smoldering vehicle on a remote stretch of road northeast of Tucson.

Deputies discovered Clifford, 53, dead after responding to a report of “suspicious activity” at around 1:20 a.m.

Officials declined to describe the man who approached Clifford.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department encouraged anyone with information to call 520-882-7463.
