A Flint man has been charged with 19 felony counts in connection with the Christmas Eve triple shooting in Oxford, which killed a 71-year-old woman and injured two others during a rampage involving seven victims.
According to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, he staged single-vehicle car crashes before “terrorizing,” injuring, or murdering Good Samaritans who stopped to check on him.
Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald charged Malik Letroy Webb, 29, with felony murder, three counts of assault with intent to murder, carjacking, nine counts of felony firearm (third offense), carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and three counts of felony assault.
“This case involves seven different victims during a series of incidents that all happened in rapid succession,” the prosecutor’s office said in a press release.
Prosecutors said the crime began on Christmas Eve at 6:20 p.m., when the defendant allegedly pulled into a parking lot near the intersection of M-24 and Oakwood, struck a wooden pole, backed up, nearly hit another car, and then rammed into the poll again. Two women, aged 28 and 54, asked the defendant if he was okay.
“He responded by pointing a handgun at them,” the press release stated.
Prosecutors say the defendant drove south on Lapeer Road. Two more women, ages 38 and 71, were driving together when they noticed a car that had crashed into a tree. They pulled over to check on the driver, who turned out to be the defendant.
The defendant attempted to run up to them and enter their car. The women attempted to drive away before he could enter.
According to prosecutors, he fired into their vehicle, striking both the driver and the passenger.
Another woman, 39, later noticed his car in a ditch and turned around to see if he was okay. According to prosecutors, the defendant pointed a handgun at her head, demanded her car keys, and told her to get in with him.
Prosecutors said the victim ran toward another car after hearing multiple gunshots.
A truck with a man, 56, and a woman, 54, inside drove past the defendant’s car in the ditch and the 39-year-old woman’s car on the road.
The man slowed down to see if anyone needed assistance when the defendant approached the truck. The defendant informed him that people were injured and in need of assistance. He then climbed onto the truck’s running board, claiming he was lost and needed assistance getting somewhere. According to prosecutors, the defendant pointed a gun at the driver, attempted to pry open the truck’s rear door, and shot him in the arm.
The man and woman in the truck were able to flee after he pried the defendant from the vehicle.
The 38-year-old and 71-year-old were rushed to the hospital, where the elderly woman died. Her name was not released.
There was no information provided about the 38- and 56-year-old victims’ conditions.
Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene and arrested the defendant without incident.
“This was a senseless murder and rampage that terrorized seven different people. “I have authorized the most serious charges, and my office will fight tirelessly for justice for these victims,” McDonald stated. “While this appears to be a random shooting, it is devastating for our entire community, especially since it occurred in the middle of the holidays. “My thoughts are with the victims and their families.”
If convicted, he will face life in prison without the possibility of parole.
