More than 22,000 pounds of cheddar bratwurst sausages are being recalled in the U.S. after some customers found hard plastic inside. These sausages were sold in 10 states and might still be in people’s freezers. The recall was announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) as a safety measure to protect people from getting hurt while eating.
Why This Recall Is Important
The reason for the recall is the possible presence of hard plastic in the sausages. If someone eats a piece of plastic, it can cause serious injuries like broken teeth or choking. These types of recalls are done when a food item might be dangerous. The goal is to keep people safe from health risks like plastic, harmful bacteria, or allergens.
Even though not every recall means the food will cause harm, it’s still important to take them seriously. In fact, according to a 2024 report, 80% of Americans are worried about food recalls.
Details About the Recalled Product
The company behind this recall is Johnsonville, LLC, based in Momence, Illinois. The product affected is “Johnsonville BRATS CHEDDAR Bratwurst”, which was made on February 5, 2025. The sausages come in 19-ounce sealed packs, each pack containing five sausages.
You can identify the recalled product by looking for the code “B9FOD” and “EST. 1647” on the packaging. These items were sent to stores in the following states:
Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
How the Problem Was Found
The issue came to light when two people complained to Johnsonville after finding hard plastic in the sausages. Thankfully, there have been no injuries reported so far. However, FSIS has warned that anyone worried about getting hurt should talk to a doctor.
