A man walking the wrong way on a busy Michigan highway while carrying knives was shot and killed by police after he posed a threat to public safety. The incident happened around 4 p.m. and is now under investigation by Michigan State Police.
Man Walked Into Oncoming Traffic Holding Knives
The Ingham County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement posted on Facebook that they received several calls from people who saw a man walking against the flow of traffic on the highway. Witnesses said he was stepping in and out of lanes, creating a dangerous situation for drivers.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found the man holding several knives. Police say they tried to calm him down and de-escalate the situation, but the situation quickly became dangerous.
Officers Forced to Open Fire
Despite attempts to manage the situation peacefully, the man did not cooperate. According to police, during the interaction, officers were forced to shoot the man. Right after the shooting, officers tried to save his life by giving medical aid, but unfortunately, he died at the scene.
