Alert for fake stimulus checks ads
However, be wary of fake stimulus check offers during this tax season. No new stimulus checks are on the way for Americans. As millions of people prepare to file their tax returns, scammers are on the prowl, sending fraudulent messages claiming you are eligible for a $1,400 check.
The Better Business Bureau warns that these deceptive text messages are intended to steal personal information. Tax expert Mark Steber clarified that no new $1,400 stimulus check is on the way.
However, the IRS reminds those who qualified for the 2021 check but did not claim it that they can still receive a direct deposit or check if they file their return by April 15.
The IRS will only contact you about refund credits via mail, never by text or email. If you receive a message claiming to be eligible for a stimulus check, it’s probably a scam.
