West Palm Beach, Florida The US flags at President-elect Donald Trump’s private Mar-a-Lago club are back to full height.
Flags are supposed to fly at half-staff until the end of January in honor of former President Jimmy Carter, who died on December 29.
A large flag on Trump’s Palm Beach property was initially lowered to half-staff per protocol, but was later raised in the days following Carter’s burial Thursday in Plains, Georgia.
Both President Joe Biden, a Democrat, and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican, ordered that US flags be flown at half-staff for 30 days after Carter’s death, or until January 28.
Trump has expressed displeasure that flags will be at half-staff on January 20, when he takes the oath of office for his second term.
During the presidential campaign, the Republican repeatedly criticized Carter, a Democrat, but in a statement issued after his death at the age of 100, he praised the 39th president.
On Monday, Trump’s spokesperson did not immediately respond to an email request for comment.
Separately, Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott ordered that all state buildings fly their flags at full staff on Inauguration Day.
“While we honor the service of a former President, we must also celebrate the service of an incoming President and the bright future ahead for the United States of America,” Abbott told reporters in a statement.
Trump paid his respects to Carter’s casket as it lay in state in the Capitol Rotunda and attended his state funeral service in Washington last week.
