JOPLIN, MO. – A Joplin man died as a result of injuries sustained during a Sunday afternoon crash.
According to the Joplin Police Department, deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash at 23rd and Maiden Lane on February 23 at 12:02 p.m.
Officers say a car was turning left onto Maiden Lane from 23rd Street, and Douglas Greer, 50, of Joplin, was driving a motorcycle northbound when the two vehicles collided.
Greer was thrown from the motorcycle after colliding with the rear of the car.
Greer was taken to a Joplin hospital with severe injuries. The department was notified of his death on Wednesday, February 26.
The next of kin has been notified.
According to the Joplin Police Department, no one else was injured in the crash. During the investigation, police discovered that excessive speed was a factor in the crash.
Thursday morning, the City of Joplin Public Works set up barriers and diverted traffic near 23rd and Maiden Lane as the Joplin Police Major Crash Team continued their investigation, which began on Sunday.
Traffic was diverted through the area from approximately 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
