The ATHENA Award is an international award presented to an exceptional individual who has achieved excellence in his/her business or profession, has served the community in a meaningful way, and has assisted women in reaching their full potential. The Shiawassee Regional Chamber of Commerce became involved in the ATHENA Program in 1988 and the award has been presented locally for twenty-nine years. The Schluckebier/Hood Wealth Management Group of Wells Fargo Advisors of Owosso sponsors the ATHENA Award.

This year’s 2017 ATHENA Award recipient is Sue Ludington of Owosso. Ludington is the co-owner of Ludington Electric, along with her husband Carl. Together, they have two children.

Ludington is very active with Owosso Community Players (OCP) serving on the Fund Development and Finance Committees, and she is chair of the OCP Marketing Committee. She is also a founding member of the Owosso “100+ Women Who Care of the Greater Owosso Area,” a group that has awarded $54,450 to three area nonprofit charities in 2016. She is also a past board member of the Owosso Historical Society.

The nominator stated, “Sue leads by example in her everyday life by running a male-dominated business. She sets a great example for women and shows it is possible to work a full-time job, raise a family, and dedicate time to organizations in the community. She is a quiet, behind-the-scenes leader, and collaborator. When called upon, Sue will respond with, “Yes, I can help.”

Ludington will be formally honored at the Shiawassee Regional Chamber of Commerce 2017 Annual Dinner and Awards Night on Thursday, Jan. 26, at D’Mar Banquet & Conference Center in Owosso.
