THE CASTLE BIKE TOUR was Saturday, Aug. 6 in downtown Owosso. Featuring four different road or multi-use trails at 8, 22, 35, and 65 miles each, the bike tour began and ended at the Shiawassee Arts Center on Curwood Castle Drive.
The 8-mile route ran parallel to the Shiawassee River, across the Heritage Bridge to McCurdy Park, Corunna and back again. The 22-mile path included the Friends of the Fred Meijer CIS Trail past Curwood Castle and out of the city. Both the 35-mile and 65-mile tours were on paved, countryside roads.
Raffle tickets for a new, Electra bicycle were available. Helmets were required, and there were rest stops along the longer routes. Complimentary lunch and water bottles were available.
Volunteers for the event included (from left) Linda Hill, Karen Stadler, Betty McGinnis, Elaine Kuchar, Jerry Lostracco, John Kuchar and Connie Ciarlino. Piper Brewer, SAC executive director, was on-hand, too. (Independent Photo/Karen Mead-Elford)
