A winter reading program for adults begins Monday, Jan. 11, at the Durand Memorial Branch of the Shiawassee District Library. Readers 18 years of age and older are invited to participate in the program which goes through March 19. Participants must have a current SDL card to join.
Participants can check out and read a library book, or borrow and listen to one of the library’s many books available on CD, then return the book with a nonperishable food item for the Loaves and Fishes food bank. The borrower’s name will then be entered into weekly drawings for gift certificates to area businesses or canvas library book bags. Personal care items may also be donated to Loaves and Fishes.
There is no limit for entering the drawings as long as the participant returns a book or book on CD along with the donated item for each chance to win. The first drawing will be held Jan. 23.
Participants are welcome to read either fiction or non-fiction for the reading program. For more information, persons may contact the Durand Memorial Branch, (989) 288-3743.
