A GROUP OF FORMER Durand Area Schools teachers got together on Friday, Sept. 13 for Durand’s homecoming celebration, and a number of the Durand legends even participated in the homecoming parade. Shown riding in the parade on Friday afternoon is (from left) Mr. Weir, Ms. Leroy, Ms. Harper and Ms. Bentley, who were also joined in the parade by Mr. and Mrs. Bombyk, Ms. Millan, Ms. Bradley, Mr. Hesse, Mr. Fuller, Mr. and Mrs. Metcalf, Mr. Grueneberg and Mr. Guyski. Also attending the pre and post parade functions but not in the parade were Mr. and Mrs. Birch, Mr. Timlin, Mr. Dorey, Mr. Harder and Mr. Stewart, as well as parade grand marshal Mr. Rowe. These “Vintage Teachers” all taught at Durand Area Schools between the 1960s and 2000s. The Metcalfs had not been back to Durand in 41 years.
