The village of Vernon DDA will host the second-annual Memorial Day 5K Fun Run and Walk Monday, May 30 to honor fallen servicemen and women. The race will begin at 9 a.m. Event organizers are welcoming participants to “dress to impress” in patriotic colors to compete in the costume contest.
Applications can be found online at www.villageofvernon.org, or by stopping into the village office during business hours. While event organizers have not decided upon a recipient, they will be donating all proceeds from the event to a local veteran service organization or put it towards a veteran memorial in the village. Interested persons are asked to pre-register by May 26. Children five years old and younger can participate for free, six to 12 year olds will be charged $5, and adults will pay $10 to enter the race.
