A reunion for Universal-Electric, Magnetek and A.O. Smith employees and their families will be 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Bennington Township Hall, 5849 S. M-52, about a quarter mile north of Brewer Road.

Persons attending are asked to take along a passing dish and their own beverages. No alcoholic drinks are allowed at the hall. Coffee will be furnished.

The first reunion was organized by Russ Wahl and a committee at the Caledonia Charter Township Hall. This year the group moved to Bennington Township’s hall for more room since 120 attended last year. For more, persons may contact him, (989) 666-8672.

For decades, Universal-Electric’s founder, George Hoddy along with his family partners, hosted the event at Bentley Park a short distance west of the Universal Drive plant, now home of Rugged Liner. The reunion picnics were always the first Saturday after Labor Day and continued with subsequent owners, but ended a number of years ago.

Wahl recalled he had grilled hot dogs all his years at the company.
