The third annual Tour Our Town event took place Saturday, Aug. 22 and was deemed a success. Nine area organizations were open free to the public with tours and mostly free activities available. Organizations included the Steam Railroading Institute (SRI), Owosso Community Players, the Downtown Farmers Market, Friends of the Shiawassee River, Shiawassee Arts Center, the Owosso Historical Commission with both Curwood Castle and Gould House, Devries Nature Conservancy and the Shiawassee County Historical Society Museum. Preliminary numbers indicate that each venue had an average of 150 visitors that day. Kim Springsdorf, Executive Director of the Shiawassee County Convention and Visitors Bureau and Marketing Director for SRI, said, “The event was a huge success and we are looking forward to next year. SRI sold a record number of 500 train robbery tickets that were offered at a discounted special event rate and had over 650 people attend the other activities.”
