THE MATTHEWS BUILDING was once again a topic of discussion during the Owosso City Council meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 21. Owosso Mayor Pro Tem Sue Osika inquired about the building, explaining that a large number of residents have approached her on the subject.

Owosso City Manager Nathan Henne shared he is working with the new owners on code enforcement. A letter has been sent to the owners, asking them to begin to secure the structure, particularly the area where the roof collapsed. The letter also asks that the broken windows are repaired/replaced. The owners have 30 days to begin the work.

Henne also shared that at this time, the new owners are not interested in tearing the building down, preferring to try to restore it.

The Matthews Building is located on the corner of Main and Water streets, directly across from city hall.
