The Sheldon Family, from Owosso, will be the featured group for the July 17 SUMMERPraise! concert at the Mitchell Amphitheater. Singing together in church since the kids were little in the early 90s, the family has been singing “on the road” since 2009. The Sheldon Family consists of Sandy (the mom) on vocals, keyboard, and saxophone, 22-year old Amanda (vocals), 19-year old Chad (vocals and trumpet), and 12-year old Tyler (vocals and trumpet).

Also joining them on-stage will be Heidi Elliott (oldest daughter) and Sandy’s brother, Terry Bailey (from Randleman, NC), both of whom joined them on their most recent CD project.

They have recorded and released three CDs: “Many Miracles” (2012); “Heaven” (2014—a tribute to Sandy’s late husband, Morrice Police Chief Mike Sheldon); “Healing Power” (May, 2016), a tribute to God’s grace and healing.

Sandy grew up in a singing family, the daughter of Betty and Gordon Bailey. Owosso residents may remember Betty as the owner of Betty’s Donuts back in the 1970s. Sandy shared, “God’s people should be the happiest people, having the most fun of anyone. We’re looking forward to a great evening of fun, praising God, and singing some great southern gospel music. There should be a little bit of something for everyone, including some token “gifts” for our audience families! We’re looking forward to singing in our hometown of Owosso!”

Other SUMMERPraise! concerts will feature The Calvarymen (July 24), Three Bridges (July 13), and Stronghold Quartet (Aug. 7).

The SUMMERPraise! concerts start at 7:30 p.m. at the amphitheater, located at 225 N. Water St., in Owosso. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or a blanket to enjoy the concert. An offering will be taken to help support the music group that evening. The Owosso Middle School auditorium, adjacent to the amphitheater, is the alternate rain site.
