The popular Owosso SUMMERPraise! series will celebrate its 18th anniversary when the season opens Sunday, July 10. The concerts are held at the Don and Metta Mitchell Amphitheater, 225 N. Water St., in Owosso. SUMMERPraise! promises to be a highly-anticipated summer event. One of America’s most popular groups, the Gold City Quartet will take the amphitheater stage at 7:30 p.m. The Owosso Middle School next door is the alternate rain site.
Event coordinator Lynn Webster shares that, “The entire community is invited to attend and be blessed through the music ministries of our wonderful groups. An offering is taken each Sunday evening to support the ministry of the groups appearing. Our quality SUMMERPraise! concerts have provided an incredible opportunity to enjoy first-rate gospel music.” The five week slate is sponsored by the Owosso-Area Ministerial Association.
According to Pastor Marlene Webster, president of the Ministerial Association, “SUMMERPraise! is a great way for all music-loving believers to bring a lawn chair or blanket (and mosquito spray) and fellowship together on Sunday evenings during the summer.”
“Bringing people to the beautiful Mitchell Amphitheater is a real joy,” shared Webster. Gold City will start out the season on July 10 and Webster says, “They will be an awesome opener for this year’s season. The Sheldon family will be Sunday, July 17. This local musical group will share traditional hymns and southern gospel songs. The Calvarymen will be the Sunday, July 24 group, celebrating 60 years of singing, including the orginal bass singer Jim Glasco. On July 31, Three Bridges will share their unique blend of southern and black gospel styles and are from Nashville, TN. Finishing up the series on Aug. 7 is the Stronghold Quartet.
