THESE FAITHFUL ORGANIZERS have been in the process of creating a disc golf course at an Owosso park location since January of 2012. The team met again to hear the final okay regarding the course at the Owosso City Council meeting on Monday, Aug. 15. They gathered for a collective photo after the meeting and included: (from left) Tim Law, Designer and Builders Eric Sanderson and John Beebe along with Owosso Parks and Rec representative Mike Espich.

Beebe vowed through the effort to not cut his hair or beard until the matter was approved. After the approval, he agreed with Ben Fredericks that he would be pariticipating in the “locks of love,” after the city council meeting.

The course was approved only after adding an additional requirement to post signs at each disc golf section which crossed the trail. Other details included to avoid the bird sanctuary and that no trees be removed to make the course. The course will be constructed at Collamer Park.

Many important approvals were made at the Monday, Aug. 15 Owosso City Council meeting. Applause erupted at the first item of business approval. Since January of 2012, organizers have been trying to proceed with the construction and use of a disc golf course at a local park. At the meeting, some discussion was made on finalized plans for the course. Council person Burton Fox wanted to be sure that signs were placed on the trails where disc golf play would cross. After being added, the council unanimously approved the course.

The other large approval at the meeting was for a street improvement bond proposal to be put on the Nov. 8 ballot. The ten million dollar bond would span over 25 years for street improvements. A special meeting was held the previous week to discuss the details of the proposal. After discussion regarding the length of the bond and the ability to apply for additional grants, the council decided it was what the people of Owosso could afford and the proposal was approved to be on the ballot at the Monday evening meeting.

Some of the items on the consent agenda included approval of the application of Donielle Jent (Elite Pet Styling) for the partial closure of various streets on Saturday, Aug. 20 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m for the Dog Days of Summer 5K Run/Walk. Also the approval of the application of Owosso Main Street to close off a portion of roads for the Owosso Vintage Motorcycle Days beginning at 6 p.m. on Aug. 26 through 6 p.m. on Aug. 27.

Assistant City Manager Susan K. Montenegro was also approved as the City Representative to cast the vote of municipality as a Michigan Municipal League Delegate at the annual business meeting on Sept. 14.
