SOSUMI SUSHI will open at 110 E. Exchange Street in Owosso on Thursday, Feb. 11, “Come hell or high water,” said owner James Gutting on Monday, Feb. 8. The restaurant will offer a “traditional sushi menu” for lunch and dinner, including beginner and vegetarian options. Gutting imports his food from the Tsukiji Fish Market of Tokyo, through True World Foods of Livonia.
The restaurant will employ five to eight people to start, and will serve food from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and 4-8 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. The space currently has seating for approximately 30 people, which is accomplished by using the basement to house the kitchen. The staff will use a dumb waiter to transport food between floors.
Gutting has added a bit of a local flavor to the ambiance of the restaurant by incorporating a bar from the old Owosso Elk’s Lodge and seats from the old Lebowsky Center. The bar’s counter, along with all the tables and chairs were crafted locally by 2nd Chance Wood of Vernon.
