SNYDER’S IGA of Perry, on N. Main (M-52) for decades, will become Carl’s Supermarket, said the Scott Joseph, who will be the store director.

He, his mom Jean, father Don and brother Mark are buying the store and will have their first day of operations Aug. 30. Scott and Mark are sixth generation Josephs in the grocery business. The family opened Carl’s Supermarket of Dimondale 25 years ago. Their family business began in Potterville.

“I’m looking forward to talking with people of the community when they stop by the store,” said Scott Joseph on Wednesday afternoon. “We plan on keeping all of the present crew.

“The biggest change people will notice is we will no longer be an IGA. We’re becoming Spartan. I have two uncles who each have a Carl’s Supermarket, one in Nashville (near Hastings) and one in Lake Odessa, so people will see their locations on our ads.”

Snyder’s IGA opened in Dec. 1972 with Bob Anderson and two partners. One left three years later, then the second retired after nine years. “Now it’s our turn,” said Bob Anderson.” What will he be doing after retirement, “As little as possible and spending a lot of time with our grandson.” (Independent Photo/BILL CONSTINE)
