This fund helps children with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate issues to receive transportation to Chicago or Cincinnati for medical care.

The club has coordinated with the Elf Khurafeh Shrine in Clio to help them with their Shrine Center. With the help from Art Van, the group is remodeling a space with a reception room and an exam room that will house Telemedicine Equipment that consists of a Telemedicine Cart with dual monitors. The cost of the equipment is $27,500 and the Shiawassee Shrine Club is joining in the effort to raise donations to pay for it.
Elf Khurafeh Shrine currently transports children, ages 18 and under, from 26 counties in Michigan to their Shriner’s Hospital in Chicago or Cincinnati for specialty care with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate, regardless of the families’ ability to pay. The group makes over 200 trips each year and transports over 275 children with approximately 45 percent of the trips for post treatment checkups. These checkups can now be done at the Clio office using the Telemedicine Equipment to communicate with the doctors at the Chicago hospital, saving the Shrine many hours of travel time and costs such as food and hotels.
All donations for the equipment are tax-deductible as this is an operation of the Shrine 501c3 Corporation (Shriners Hospital Transportation Fund). Donations may be sent to: Elf Khurafeh Shriners, P.O. Box 1, Clio, MI 48420.
