The Shiawassee County Veterans Honor Guard participated in Laingsburg’s 2017 Memorial Day ceremony. The program, organized by Gary Anderson, Laingsburg’s VFW Post Commander, consisted of speeches by local dignitaries and State Rep. Ben Frederick. Patriotic music was provided by the Laingsburg High School band. The ceremony was held to honor the Laingsburg area veterans who have died while in the service of our nation, and for the families left behind. The honor guard provided the ceremonial three volleys of gunfire, followed by the playing of Taps for the soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen now at rest in Laingsburg’s cemeteries; men and women who put their lives on the line and made the ultimate sacrifice, their lives, for our freedoms.
The Shiawassee County Veterans Honor Guard consists of veterans from Bancroft, Byron, Corunna, Durand, Laingsburg, Owosso, and Perry. The guard’s secretary, Gary Coe, called the invitation to participate in the ceremony “an honor.”
