The Shiawassee County Historical Society enjoyed a prosperous and exciting year. We had two successful yard sales and the proceeds will go toward improvements and additions to our Archives and Museum. We participated in Tour Our Town with over 100 people visiting our Museum. The Shiawassee District Library, Owosso Branch gave the Archives bound copies of the Owosso Press American from 1901 through 1915. The obituaries will be scanned, printed, indexed and made into books – one for the Owosso Library and one for our Archives.
Our speakers for the year included: January- Jo Ellen Hartley taking us on a trip through the Historic Homes of Corunna; February- Don Wilson presented “Evolution of the Bicycle;” March- Ken Tarrant showed us his collection of Old Postcards; April- Jo Ellen talked about the Historic Homes of Owosso with Porches and what they looked like now; October- Connie Cobley talked about the Orphan Train and the possibility of one of them going through Durand.; November- Joy Welty showed us A Civil War Saga – the sinking of the Sultana.
Board members include Charles Wascher, President and Treasurer; Tom Mize, Vice President; Lucille Couzynse, Secretary; John Bloomfield, Keith Clarke, Jo Ellen Hartley, Mary Ann Louks, Junior Love, Sandy Michalek, Drew Thorsby, Jim Van Pelt and Pat White.
