THE SHIAWASSEE COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT was one of many nonprofit organizations that had a table during the Homeless Angels event on Sunday, July 29 near the corner of Park and Exchange Streets. In the photo, (from left) Marji Nichols and Nicole Greenway were more than happy to assist everyone attending the special event. Their display included free pertinent information, storybooks, frisbees, magnets, pencils and condoms. Hepatitis A vaccines were offered, as well.
On a side note, the health department, operating out of the basement of the 66th District Court building in Corunna for the previous 40 years, saw a groundbreaking for a new 8,000-square-foot addition on Tuesday, July 24. That story was featured in the Sunday, July 29 Independent newspaper.
It is also worth noting, regarding the hepatitis A vaccines, that Shiawassee County has seen a rise in outbreaks this summer. The county reminds residents that both the vaccination and thorough hand-washing techniques are wise in defending against the highly contagious disease.
