SHIAWASSEE COUNTY CLERK CAROLINE WILSON attended the SRCC Chamber AM at the Owosso Big Boy on Tuesday, April 9.
Wilson was pleased to introduce the new Shiawassee County Directory to everyone in attendance. The 2019-2020 directory is the second that Wilson’s office has created and has proven to be a very helpful guidebook with pertinent county information.
During Chamber AM, Wilson elaborated on what the two offices she coordinates at the courthouse have to offer to residents. The circuit court records room files for the county courts, handles personal protection orders (PPO) and offers passports including pictures, which can be done in the office.
The vital records office is responsible for death and birth certificates, Doing Business As (DBA) filings, certified pistol licenses (CPL), DD214 papers for veterans and notarizations.
Wilson also discussed the upcoming REAL ID-compliant driver’s licenses. Specially designated IDs will be required to board domestic flights, enter federal facilities or to visit Canada. Michigan is working with federal agencies. To apply for a REAL ID- compliant driver’s license, a resident will need to have a certified birth certificate with a raised seal/stamp, amongst other identification related to name-changes.
The federal standards for the REAL ID-compliant driver’s licenses were drafted as a result of 9/11.
Both offices are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
