The varsity wrestling teams from Owosso, Corunna, Chesaning and New Lothrop all won their district matches last week to advance to regionals.
Owosso beat Saginaw Arthur Hill 77-4 and Mt. Pleasant 42-24 in district action Wednesday, Feb. 10 at Owosso and will take on Flint Kearsley today (Wednesday, Feb. 17) in Mt. Pleasant. The winner will face either Gaylord or Escanaba for the right to compete in the Division 2 state quarterfinals.
Corunna beat Durand 60-24 and Ovid-Elsie 54-18 on Thursday, Feb. 11 in Corunna to advance. They will face Chesaning in Ithaca on Feb. 17 after the Indians dispatched Ithaca 78-6 and Alma 42-22 to win their district. The winner of that match will face either Lake Odessa Lakewood or Lake Fenton, as each team vies to be one of eight remaining challengers for the Division 3 state championship.
New Lothrop is at it again, as they took care of Saginaw Nouvel Catholic Central 70-3 in Saginaw to claim the district crown. The Hornets will face Saginaw Michigan Lutheran Seminary in New Lothrop, and the winner will get either Bad Axe or Mayville with a trip to the Division 4 state tournament on the line.
