Sciota Township Treasurer Eric J. Schuman has announced his candidacy for Sciota Township Supervisor. Schuman is a veteran of the U. S. Navy serving during the Viet Nam conflict. He also has an Associate’s degree in Marketing from St. Clair County Community College, and a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Walsh College of Accounting and Business Administration. He is a 38 year member of the Lions Club (17 years locally), and a member of the American Legion, the American Veterans, and the National Rifle Association.

Schuman has served three terms as Treasurer of Sciota Township. “I have worked for the citizens of Sciota Township faithfully going on 12 years now, and I am always looking out for their best interests. What is currently going on within the township tells me it’s time for a change. I will continue to stand up for the citizens of this township and how their tax dollars are spent even if it is unpopular with certain individuals.

“Additionally I pledge, if elected, to provide ‘office hours’ as it were, at least once a month for any citizen to come and voice their concerns about the township to me, which will be set up and established in the press as to date, time and place. And if a citizen is homebound, I would be more than happy to go to their residence and visit with them. Now that I am retired, I have the time that is needed to devote to representing and working for Sciota’s residents, which I want to do.”

Schuman has been a resident of Shiawassee county and Sciota Township for almost 17 years. In the past, he served as President of the Laingsburg Business Association for five years, and was District Governor for Lions District 11-C2. He also was the owner of Schuman Photography, which he ran successfully for 25 years before retiring this past year to devote more time to the township.
