SHANE O’BRIEN of Owosso is one of four $750 scholarship winners in the Gorman’s Home Furnishings and Interior Design scholarship competition for its 75th anniversary this year, announced Gorman’s President Tom Lias.

Shane O’Brien of Owosso is an active member of Michigan State University’s Interior Design Student Organization, O’Brien is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in interior design at MSU. An intern for Hart-Davidson Designs in Williamston, he describes his core philosophy as a simple one: turn living spaces into homes and strive to design homes that “reflect the outspoken, bold, wanting-every-pizza-topping-kind-of-gal that resides within. Most importantly, never compromise the welfare and safety of the client.”

To be eligible, all applicants were required to be registered in a certification or an associate’s, bachelor’s or master’s degree program for interior design in Michigan. Each application was subjectively judged on the students’ core design philosophy, goals and commitment to the profession. (Courtesy Photo)
