Sage Market Opens in Laingsburg

Sam Shango of DeWitt is the new owner of the former Mark’s Food Pride in Laingsburg, located on the corner of Grand River and Woodbury roads. Sage Market officially opened on Monday, Jan. 15, and Shango shared that he was pleased with the first-day reception.
As for employees, Shango stated, “We kept every single person from Mark’s. I think the number is 20.” He also emphasized that his manager, Michelle Parker, will be the regular face at the store.
“The industry has gone toward fresh food, and that’s definitely the message we’re going to carry,” shared Shango. “We’re reducing the aisles of canned food items, and doubling the produce department size. But everything is still a work in progress. As customer traffic goes up, we will increase things
as needed.”
Shango also explained that because the store will not be dependent on just one vendor, instead dealing with multiple vendors, that “we will be dropping prices – big time.”
A grand opening event is being planned for late spring, once the weather is warmer. “I have many ideas for my grand opening,” Shango said.
Temporary store hours will be Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. The hours will likely be adjusted to accommodate the needs of the community, as they once again support shopping in their own area grocery store.
