THE RESPITE VOLUNTEERS held its annual meeting and awards celebration on Thursday, Nov. 2 at the Owosso First Church of the Nazarene. Hugh Parker was the keynote speaker, with Laura Burroughs and Allie Sturtridge also speaking. Music was provided by Pastor Lonny Bumgardner.

  The Volunteer of the Year was awarded to Laura Burroughs. The Diz Clark Church Liaison award was given to Hugh Parker of Owosso First Church of the Nazarene. The George Nama Community award was given to the Cook Family Foundation, with Laura Davis accepting the award. The Sharon Rearick Philanthropic award was presented to the 100+ Women Who Care of Greater Owosso, with Diane Cutler accepting. Jackie Hurd was honored as the highest recruiter from November 2016 through October 2017. Hugh Parker was also honored with a certificate from the state of Michigan.

  The next Respite Volunteer Workshop will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at the Perry United Methodist Church.

  Laura Burroughs, board chair, led the business meeting. The slate of officers was announced as: Pastor Lonny Bumgardner, board chair; Allie Sturtridge, vice chair; Lori Chant, treasurer; Mary Jane Scarlett, secretary; Laura Burroughs, past president.

  New board members include Karen Bontrager, Laura Davis, Jackie Hurd, Alice Lewis, David Stechschulte Jr., and Allie Tepper, along with renewing board members Mary Jane Scarlett and Kathy Raines.
