Father David Fisher, the pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owosso for the past 23 years, announced in the spring his plans to retire at the end of this month and was honored at a retirement party Friday, June 19, at GiGi’s of Corunna.

With the shortage of priests in the Diocese of Lansing, Father Michael O’Brien, the pastor of St. Paul Catholic Church in Owosso, will be the pastor of both parishes. It was emphasized both will continue to operate separately as a cluster, not a merger.

St. Joseph’s was established more than 90 years ago. Over the decades it often had at least one assistant pastor serving with the pastor. Fifty and sixty years ago, St. Paul normally had two assistant pastors serving with the pastor, however, with retirements and fewer priests, each parish has had only a pastor for a number of years.
