Supporters of community theatre will have a chance to celebrate as the Owosso Community Players launch its exciting 2016-17 season with an evening under the stars. “A Night in New Orleans” will be held Saturday, Aug. 27 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. under the tent at 101 S. Washington St. (behind Chemical Bank). The evening will include authentic New Orleans style food served by Lula’s, a cash bar for guests over 21, and an assortment of Cajun, Zydeco, and jazz tunes. Kathy Brooks, OCP’s Executive Director, says she hopes this event will become an annual tradition to kick off each new season of shows.

The festivities will also include a raffle for a Big Green Egg grill package; raffle tickets are $35 each or 2 for $60. Guests can participate in silent and blind auctions offering OCP memorabilia, vacation packages, and other valuable items. In addition, guests can claim a piece of Lebowsky history by purchasing letters from the old marquee ($20 for large letters, $10 for small).

Tickets to the event are $25 each and include one free signature drink. Tickets can be purchased Aug. 1 to Aug. 22 at the OCP box office (Mon. and Wed. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.), online at, or by calling (517) 256-3463.

OCP’s new season includes “Rock of Ages,” “Inherit the Wind,” “Cheaper by the Dozen,” “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” “Peter and the Starcatcher,” and “Sister Act.”
