OLIVER STREET CONSTRUCTION continues as seen on Saturday,
July 8 facing west toward Washington Street. The street remains closed to through traffic, though detour signs are evident and easily identified. The estimated time for completion is toward the end of August.
City Engineer Randy Chesney responded with this update regarding the construction, “Right now, were building the new road. We’re completing the excavation and are putting in the new aggregate base.” He also shared that concrete work is due to begin next week and will include gutters, curb, sidewalks, and driveway approaches. This process should take approximately two weeks with asphalt work happening soon after.
For those individuals curious about the long-time history of Oliver Street, a number of the bricks to the sides of the road date back to around the 1940s or so when it was a bricked street.
The new Hathaway Drive, off Chipman Road in Owosso has been completed and was opened to traffic on Monday, July 10.
